HydroMulching
Similar to HydroSeeding but a more complex mixture that incorporates mulch (among other ingredients as may be required). Can also include binding agents, dyes, organic fibres (paper, wood, etc.), and other specialist agents (e.g. soil conditioners) as required. HydroMulching was a later development that added mulch to the mix, resulting in thick slurry that provided a variety of advantages such as:
|
- Erosion control
- Holding the seed in place during germination
- Retaining soil moisture
- Slowing runoff
- Providing a friendly microclimate for the seed
|
Mulch has been proven to be an important factor in consistent grass growth, and the addition of a tackifier improves results even further. The mulch itself can be derived from wood or paper fibres. Generally, the thicker the slurry, the better the result. This, of course, places significant demands on pumping machinery, so it is vital that the HydroMulching contractor has the correct equipment for the job. Ongoing mechanical agitation of the mix is required, and then special pumps designed to deliver the slurry through long hoses under very considerable pressure are essential. The final part of the delivery system is the nozzles, selection of which allows further control when spraying slurry on location.
