Note: Specifiers are invited to copy and paste specifications into their favourite word processing program. If any further assistance whatsoever is needed, please do not hesitate to contact AquaSeeding for expert assistance.
Description of Process In this process, a combination of water, seed and fertiliser are homogeneously mixed in a purpose-built, truck-mounted tank. The seed mixture is sprayed onto the site from the truck via a directional monitor and can be pumped through extension hoses for up to 200 metres if necessary. The mix is sprayed over the soil surface providing an even distribution of seed and fertiliser.

This method has no erosion control or moisture retention properties, and is generally used prior to Straw Mulching.
Extent of Work: The work included in this contract is as follows: Hydroseeding of Roadside Batters etc.
Contractor’s Qualifications: Each tenderer shall submit documentary evidence of his proven ability to carry out this type of work. Such evidence shall include a list of similar projects satisfactorily completed together with a statement of the qualifications and/or experience of the personnel to be employed on the works, quality assurance procedures and suitability of equipment to be used.
Site Preparation: Where possible, prior to topsoiling, the areas should be deep-ripped. After topsoiling, all areas to be seeded shall be scarified to provide a reasonably firm but friable seedbed, free of weed or plant growth, large stones or other debris, and the whole area fallowed and left ready for HydroSeeding.
Application Rates: The Contractor shall apply the following to areas be treated:

a) Approved Seed Varieties (Sowing rate as per supplier’s recommendation)
The seed mix will vary according to the season, soil condition and client requirements.
Typical sowing rates are:

  • 100 - 400 Kg per Ha (turf and exotic)

  • 5 – 10 Kg per Ha (native species)

b) Approved Fertiliser (Application rate as per supplier’s recommendation)
Selection of fertiliser will depend on soil analysis results and client requirements. Typical application rates are 250 - 500 Kg per Ha.

c) Binder (Organic Tackifier)*
Application Rate is dependent on slope and erosion control requirements. Typical application rates are 40 - 60 Kg per Ha.
*Binder application may be omitted.
Operation: Seed, fertiliser and water shall be thoroughly mixed together and then applied under pressure to the area to be treated, by means of Hydroseeding equipment specifically designed for this purpose and by operators trained in the use of this equipment. The constantly agitated mixture shall be applied on a calm day, operating on a front so that the mixture is evenly distributed over the area at the specified rate. Complete each front before commencing the next. Care must be taken to minimise over-spray on to adjacent garden beds, kerbs or other fixtures.
After Care Maintenance: Adequate watering must be provided to ensure successful germination in the critical first weeks and to ensure a vigorous healthy sward of grass is achieved.

A management plan shall be prepared (as per seasonal requirements) for watering, post-fertilising weed eradication and mowing.
