StrawMulching

A straw mulcher blows a stream of clipped straw that has been lightly covered with a mist of bituminous binder, through a cannon-like device across the area to be covered. The sticky straw covers the area in a thick matted blanket of 15mm to 30mm. No water is used. Seed and fertiliser must be applied before this operation.
Alternatively,an organic binder (ENVIROTACK) can be applied (using a Hydromulcher) to tack the straw as a secondary application
Due to the thickness of the layer, straw mulching is very effective in stabilising dispersible soils or loose materials on cut and fill batters.Because it has greater moisture retention properties, it is very effective in "out of season" warm weather applications. It also provides a perfect micro-climate during colder weather, and is particularly effective in frosty conditions.
